The Sharon Center UMC is leading an effort to bring sun powered energy to the Camphor Mission in Liberia Africa. The Eastern Ohio Conference of the UMC has a 3C initiative – Clinics, Classrooms and Churches. The sun power energy will assist with all three of these initiatives.
The only electricity that this mission has access to is through the use of a diesel power generator. Since diesel fuel is expensive, the generator is used only when needed. Gaining access to a reliable source of power will: allow vaccines to be stored in temperature regulated climates; allow school children to have electric lights for school work; allow a sanitary health clinic environment, and; provide countless other opportunities.
The first fundraiser was held in December 2014 at the Cleveland MetroParks Chalet and Toboggan Chutes. More events will be planned as project plans are solidified for the sun power. Here are some pictures from the first fundraising event. Special thanks to all those who contributed!
